Doug Baldock, local Gillingham resident, appeared on stage on Wednesday 30th September at Labour Party Conference in Brighton to share his experiences of the National Health Service.
Doug told how Labour’s action to support the NHS meant he received excellent care when he was treated for cancer last year.
Doug Baldock, 74, told the conference: “Last year, I went to my local GP with a stomach ache. This raised his concerns so he sent me to the hospital for further checks. His speedy action and Labour’s guarantee to get you referred to hospital within two weeks of suspected cancer, saved my life. David Cameron says he will scrap cancer guarantees.
“I am forever thankful to my GP and all the doctors and nurses who cared for me at the Medway Maritime Hospital. It was about 11 weeks from my first visit to my GP to treatment being completed which is so impressive. I am proud of the NHS and back Labour’s pledge to invest in early cancer diagnosis.
Doug appeared on stage with Andy Burnham, Secretary of State for Health, and people from across the country who all had a positive story to tell about their experience of the NHS. |
