John Denham, Southampton Itchen MP and the new Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, said on his new appointment to the Shadow Cabinet today:

"I am delighted that Ed Miliband has asked me to take on this key responsibility.

"Getting growth into the economy is key to Britain’s future - creating jobs, securing opportunities for young people and making Britain more prosperous. I intend to hold the Coalition Government to account for the decisions they make and I will be a strong voice for business and for those at work in the South and across the country.

"We need an economy that is strong, and offers fairness and opportunity for everyone at work."
