Medway Labour concerned axing of SEEDA will threaten regeneration

Cllr Paul Godwin, Labour Group Leader on Medway Council, responding to the news that the Coalition Government will axe the South East Regional Development Agency (SEEDA) in its review today, said:

"I am very concerned at the news that SEEDA will be axed by the Tory-Liberal Government. Over the past few years SEEDA has brought £85 million to Kent to support the Thames Gateway project – providing new jobs and housing in our area. SEEDA helped Medway through the recession by giving the support needed to keep projects like the Rochester Riverside redevelopment on track.

"The Government's plan involves cuts that are too big, too fast and costs of abolishing agencies like SEEDA could potentially outweigh the savings."
