At their selection meeting on 13th June 2009, Reading West constituency Labour Party chose Naz Sarkar as the Labour parliamentary candidate for Reading West at the next general election.
Naz Sarkar, the new Labour parliamentary candidate for Reading West said:
“I am honoured and delighted that Reading West Labour Party have selected me as their new candidate. I look forward to supporting this Labour government’s plans to bring us through these tough economic times and to clean up politics. There is a stark choice for the people of Reading at the next election between Labour who believe we must grow our way out of recession and the Conservatives who want to cut public spending in the majority of government departments by 10 per cent.”
Jo Lovelock, Labour Leader of Reading Council said:
“Reading Labour Party are delighted that we have such a strong candidate in Naz Sarkar. Together with Martin Salter MP, Anneliese Dodds, PPC for Reading East and all our hard-working councillors, Naz will continue to fight for fairness in politics, a strong economy and good public services in Reading.”
Ben Zielinski, Secretary of Reading Labour Party said:
"All the short-listed candidates in this selection were of a high calibre so this was a challenging selection to get through. Naz Sarkar will make an excellent candidate for Reading West and Reading Labour Party offers him our congratulations."
Martin Salter, current Labour MP for Reading West said, “I am really pleased that Labour Party members in Reading West have selected Naz Sarkar to be my successor and fight the seat for Labour at the next general election. It has been a tough and demanding selection process and Naz has come through with flying colours and shown passion, professionalism and a real understanding of what this constituency needs.
I will be working with Naz alongside the experienced team of local Labour councillors here in Reading West right up until election day to secure a Labour victory”.
