TORIES' CHILD BENEFIT RISKS TO FAMILIES IN THE SOUTH EAST

Labour launches a new poster today as Ed Miliband highlights the devastating impact of Tory plans on family finances in the South East.

The Tories' cuts to child benefit will cost 4.3 million families over £1,000 a year in the UK.

The number of children in the South East receiving Child Benefit that face losing up to over £1,000 a year is 240,025 with 2,425 in Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven alone.

Ed Miliband, Leader of the Labour Party, said:

"David Cameron was asked three times last night whether he planned to cut child benefit.

"Three times he refused to answer.

"Three times he sent a brutally clear message to British families: he wants to cut your child benefit.

"He has done it before and he will do it again."

Labour’s candidate for Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven, Nancy Platts, said:

“David Cameron’s refusal to rule out slashing child benefit is not just leaving family budgets in uncertainty in the South East, but also the local economy in which that money would be spent.

“If the Tories can commit to keeping non-dom status for millionaires, then they can commit to protecting child benefit for the over 240,000 children in the South East.

“The Tory’s plans to cut child benefit are yet another extreme spending cut to Brighton and the South East – and more proof as to why we vitally need a Labour Government elected next week.”
